REVEALED: PARTICIPANTS AND NEW LOCATION OF THE EIGHTH EDITION

On October 14th, the eighth edition of Castello Errante will begin.
The participants for this year and the new location have been announced.

Everything is ready for the eighth edition of Castello Errante. Residenza Internazionale del Cinema that supports the audiovisual sector in an innovative way by offering a formative and productive experience to young aspiring directors, screenwriters, filmmakers, and other professionals in the field. At the same time, it promotes and enhances the villages of the Lazio Region.

The format is presented as a unique and unconventional training model, bringing together Italian and Latin American professionals through a particularly stimulating work approach, fostering international exchanges between Italy and Latin America.

The names of the under-35 professionals selected through the calls to be part of the project’s crew have been announced: Johnnatan Javier Arce Sanchez: Sound Engineer
David Mateo Galarza Espinosa: Boom Operator
Carol Reyes Hernández: Composer
Melany Mora Murillo: Set Designer
Claudia Valeria Barrantes Sotomayor: Assistant Set Designer
Aldana Martinez Bassi: Costume Designer
Luis Vicente Fresno Marzolo: Director
Cristina Alessandra Miranda Oliveira: Filmmaker
Elvira Del Carmen Rodriguez Alonso: Assistant Director
Carlos Alvaro Moguel Macías: Director of Photography
Raúl Pérez Torrens: 1st Camera Assistant
Tiziana Caula: 2nd Camera Assistant
Lautaro Luna Binder: Editor
Camilla Fragasso: Production Assistant

The event will take place in two phases: in the first, the selected participants will attend online lessons and masterclasses on screenwriting, directing, sound, and photography from October 14th to 30th, with important international experts in the field. They will test themselves with new formats, producing content and ideas that will document the location hosting the residency. The in-person residency will take place from November 6th to 19th, with the crew gathering in the chosen location for the 2024 edition: the village of Montenero Sabino (Rieti), which was already the set for Castello Errante in the 2017 edition.
Located in the heart of the Sabina region, Montenero rises among the inlets of the Sabini Mountains, perched on a fascinating rocky spur, and its Orsini Castle will be transformed into a true film production studio.

“The international element and the deep connection with the Italian territory express the real soft power of Castello Errante, as such a local and global content, highlighting the beauties of our heritage, can truly capture the interest and curiosity of professionals from all over the world,” emphasized Adele Dell’Erario, the creator and artistic director of the project. “This year’s solution will once again confirm that Castello Errante is a place of value and a unique opportunity for the Italian audiovisual sector and for the entire region hosting the initiative.”

Castello Errante continues to aim at combining research and education in the audiovisual field within a diversified context, far from large cities: a new model of audiovisual production, promoting significant cultural and economic dissemination in decentralized areas, combined with strong international visibility for Lazio and Italy in Latin America.

The works created during the 7th edition of Castello Errante have entered the distribution and promotion phase. Notably, L’ultimo giorno dell’orso, a short film directed by Antonio Donato and distributed by Sayonara Film, tells the story of Dennis, a thoughtful 12-year-old with a restless spirit who is preparing to leave the forest refuge to meet his new guardians. Amid bittersweet goodbyes and an uncertain future, the boy, raised in a children’s community, prepares for the next chapter of his life. The short film was entirely produced during the 2023 International Residency.

Castello Errante is a project organized by Occhi di Giove S.r.l. with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Lazio Region, in collaboration with IILA – Italo-Latin American International Organization, Roma Lazio Film Commission, AANT – Academy of Arts and New Technologies, Doc/it – Italian Documentary Filmmakers Association, Red TAL – Union of Latin American Public and Cultural Channels, the Embassies of Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, Mexico, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Venezuela, along with a wide network of national and international festivals and cultural partners.
